Overview

Every action counts

It is easy to feel overwhelmed in the face of species loss and habitat destruction. The problem is large and complex, and it is common to feel powerless. Yet everything we do matters — our seemingly small actions add up to a lot.

How you can help

01

Protect wildlife habitat

Deforestation, over-grazing and development cause irreversible change — erosion, desertification and altered local climates. Protecting habitat protects whole communities of animals at once. Joining a conservation organization is one of the best ways to support that work.

02

Reduce the threat of invasive species

Non-native species compete with native ones for food and habitat, and can prey on them directly. Planting native species helps.

03

Recycle and consume less

Reusing, recycling and using less energy all take some of the burden off natural resources.

04

Minimize herbicides and pesticides

They break down slowly and build up in soils and through the food chain. Amphibians are especially vulnerable.

05

Slow down when driving

Roads divide habitat and are a constant hazard to animals crossing them — keep an eye out for wildlife.

06

Share your enthusiasm

Encourage others to learn about nature, enjoy watching wildlife and value the habitats and species we share the planet with.
