Overview

From Baltistan to Nagar over the ice

This is one of the great wilderness journeys of the Karakoram. We walk the full length of the Biafo glacier from Askole, past the granite spires around Baintha, to Snow Lake — a vast basin of snow ringed by peaks. From there we climb to the Hispar La and descend the Hispar glacier into the Nagar valley, coming out close to Hunza.

Above Baintha the route is on snow-covered glacier, where the whole party travels roped together. It suits fit, experienced trekkers who are happy with long days and several nights camped on the ice. There are no villages for almost two weeks, so the crew carries everything.
